UFPO Members Participates in Raising Money for Special Olympics

The 31st Annual Penguin Plunge, which was presented by Community Bank, was held on Saturday, March 14th at the Burlington Waterfront. Over 1,100 people, including members of the UFPO, fundraised and plunged into the frigid waters of Lake Champlain to show their support for Special Olympics athletes in Vermont. The Penguin Plunge is the largest fundraising event for Special Olympics Vermont, and this year, over $585,000 was raised to support sports training and competition opportunities across local and school programs, free health screenings, and leadership opportunities for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Vermont.

UFPO Vermont Labor Representative Chris Hoar Stated: “From jumping into the Deschutes River in Oregon to taking the plunge in Lake Champlain in Vermont this past weekend, each event has been a reminder of why this cause matters so much. As a proud participant of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics team, these moments bring together law enforcement, athletes, families, and communities in support of inclusion and opportunity for individuals with intellectual disabilities”.

Hoar concluded his statement with: “Yes, the water is always freezing, but the energy, camaraderie, and purpose behind it make every second worth it”.

The UFPO membership is grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside so many incredible people who continue to champion the mission of Special Olympics. The UFPO Board is looking forward to the next plunge!

St. Patrick’s Day Greetings

The United Federation of Police Officers extend our sincere greetings to all on the occasion of St. Patrick’s Day. This day provides a meaningful opportunity to celebrate Ireland’s rich history, vibrant culture, and enduring legacy. From the picturesque landscapes to the cherished melodies of traditional music, St. Patrick’s Day stands as a testament to the stories, achievements, and resilience.

Whether you are observing the day by wearing green, enjoying classic Irish cuisine, or appreciating the artistry of Irish music, we hope your celebrations are marked by goodwill and unity. St. Patrick’s Day encourages us to recognize the warmth of community, togetherness and the enduring appeal of Irish folklore, including its legendary symbols and heartfelt blessings.

Gather with those close to you to commemorate good fortune and lasting happiness. Take this moment to reflect upon the simple pleasures—a shamrock, a traditional soda bread, or a well-told story shared among friends. As we mark the occasion, let us embrace the values of kindness, generosity, and togetherness that are at the heart of this Irish tradition.

May this St. Patrick’s Day bring you prosperity, joy, and peace. Wishing all a happy, safe and meaningful St. Patrick’s Day.
